In this episode of LPL’s Black advisor community conversation series “Around the Table,” advisors reflect on key takeaways from a turbulent 2020.

“2020 was an absolute dumpster fire in almost every area — except work,” one advisor said. “There was a light on minority-owned businesses and an acute awareness around our race and financial services.”

For others, COVID-19 and work-from-home requirements made virtual meetings more acceptable, allowing advisors to firm up existing client ties while expanding their footprint to new areas. “After COVID-19 hit, everybody began working from home and people were open to virtual meetings. This week, I’ve met with clients in New York, Chicago, and Atlanta,” another advisor said.

For Black advisors, remote video work allowed them to connect more deeply with their clients, too. “For my clients who don’t look like me, they want to know my perspective on what’s going on, and it gives you a chance to be frank. It helps open their eyes and build relationships,” another advisor said.
